April Fool’s Day Stunts – (Good) Stuff or Nonsense?

Ask anyone to name a famous April Fool stunt and the chances are that they will say “The Spaghetti Tree”. This was a spoof news item by the BBC revealing that spaghetti was a crop grown on trees – or something like that – and apparently millions of people were taken in. Given that this was back in 1957 I doubt anyone reading was even born at the time, but the stunt caught the public’s imagination and has paved the way for subsequent stories of square eggs, edible pizza boxes, cats for the blind and other such nonsense..
