Challenge

The Living Coast – the Brighton and Lewes Downs UNESCO World Biosphere Region – aims to build a relationship between people and nature, inspiring sustainability and conservation.

Their objectives are to:

  • Conserve and enhance nature
  • Support sustainable human development
  • Promote environmental awareness, knowledge, learning and engagement

With only a small team to deliver such big ambitions, they were limited in both time and resources to develop a marketing strategy and develop their collateral, such as the website, social media channels and email marketing platform.

They asked the Cobb Digital team to help develop a plan to take their marketing and communications forward.

Solution

Our first step was to review the existing platforms to assess their strengths and identify areas of opportunity. We performed an audit of their website, social media channels and email marketing. From these we were able to provide a number of recommendations to improve the functionality, usability and engagement of all three channels, including a priority list of development tasks to improve the optimisation and visibility of the site.

Having evaluated the opportunities for their existing platforms and spent time with the team understanding their objectives and organisational values, we were able to put together a detailed marketing strategy, which included:

  • Tone of voice guidelines
  • Content recommendations
  • Influencer recommendations
  • PR advice
  • Measurement guidance
  • Partner marketing opportunities

On discovering that there were issues with their current email marketing platform, we gave the team a test account for our own platform, Email+, which offers greater functionality to enable the easier creation of emails – vital for a small team with limited time – as well as a more cost-effective option for larger sends.

We also provided a social media best practice guide to empower their team, and guidelines on preparing for GDPR.

The next stage was to upskill the team to enable them to put our recommendations into practice. We have created a series of bespoke training sessions to cater to their individual requirements.

Outcome

The Living Coast team have been hard at work implementing the recommendations and developing their new marketing strategy.

Following the implementation of our website recommendations, organic traffic has increased by 78% compared with the previous period, and social media referrals have increased by 25%.

The team are developing their social media and email marketing activities, and we are looking forward to seeing the results!
